spectral audio morphing
SpectMorph is a free software project which allows to analyze samples of musical instruments, and to combine them (morphing). It can be used to construct hybrid sounds, for instance a sound between a trumpet and a flute; or smooth transitions, for instance a sound that starts as a trumpet and then gradually changes to a flute. In its current version, this ships with many ready-to-use instruments which can be combined using morphing.

Plugins:
SpectMorph supports three different plugin formats,

CLAP plugin
VST plugin
LV2 plugin
for Linux, macOS (x86_64 and Apple Silicon) and 64-bit Windows, so it works in many different hosts, such as Ardour, Qtractor, Anklang, Bitwig, Renoise, Cubase, Ableton Live and others. For hosts that support CLAP, using the SpectMorph CLAP plugin is the preferred way of integration.

Controlling Morphing with Automation:
The plugin has four properties that can be automated by the host, called Control #1 … Control #4. To use these, for instance for linear morphing, the Control Input can be set to “Control Signal #1” (or #2) in the UI. After that the host can change the morphing from left source to right source and back.

Controlling Morphing with CCs:
The control inputs (Control Signal #1 … Control Signal #4) are mapped to the midi CC controls (General Purpose Controller 1..4).

Morpho Model
At the core of Neutone Morpho are the Morpho AI models, where the magic happens. You can interact with a loaded Morpho model in two modes to influence the tone-morphing process.

In Macro Mode, you have four macro knobs that allow you to change the general behaviors of the model. For example, the “Serendipity” knob determines the level of randomness in the transfer, with higher serendipity resulting in more complex sound. Each model has its own unique macros. For instance, a percussion model may have a knob called “decay” that controls the decay of each hit.

It has 10 polyphony with an OSC that has 3 internal ‘Modulator->OSC’ pairs with detune, quantization and phasemodulation.
There is a per voice dual LFO that modulates the filter. The filter itself is a ‘moog’ type filter which internally dynamically scales its range for each note played, an envelope modulates this as well.
All this is put through a ‘spacialiser’ that helps place the sound in the mix. Finally, there is an ‘opaque’ mix through which ‘waveform ducks’ incoming audio, usefull for making a bass waveform not clip the audio signal.
Aside from that, it has extras like the ‘Vintagizer’, Colour scheme choice, Vibrato, and OSC key sync.

Blender 2 was made to explore the possibilities of dynamic waveform morphing (crossfading).

You can mix between 4 sound sources using a recordable on-screen joystick..

The Blend envelope controls the mix between 4 waveforms. In addition there are 2 sub oscillators.

The resulting sound is then passed through a dynamic filter, with its own envelope, and finally to the output level envelope.
