Skew is a non-linear reverse delay effect plugin for Mac, Windows and Linux. It constantly records the incoming audio into a buffer and plays it back in reversed chunks, rhythmically synchronizing them to the host transport. Furthermore, this algorithm warps the delay playback speed via a selection of non-linear curves, bending the pitch in interesting ways.

The delay has a unique design with three playheads – one for the feedback, two more for the playback – allowing the pitch bend effects to remain the same between feedback repeat cycles. With its meticulous calibration and wide parameter range, Skew can create multiple rhythmically-precise effects such as pure reversing, tape rewind, pitch slides, detuning, vibrato, scratching, and more.

Dynamic Modulated Delay Set the routing and mode of modulation (Chorus/Flanger) through the purple control in the middle. Click on the small red circle inside the modulation (left) or delay (right) controls, to automate them by volume input (pink), or click again, to automate them by the LFO (yellow). Clicking again will set the control back to non-automated (red).

The central pink controls will set how quickly the assigned parameter goes up or down, in relation to the input volume. The central yellow controls will set where the LFO moves the assigned control up to, and how fast it moves (if the ‘LFO TO’ is less than the red position, it will have nowhere to move up to).

Glitch delay geared toward creating robotic artifacts and musical malfunctions.

Hysteresis is a versatile effects processor geared toward electronic musicians and sound designers. Process anything from drums to synths, guitars, vocals and sound effects. On top of being able to create contorted signal mutations, it can also be tamed to generate classic delay effects.

Hysteresis features a delay effect with stutter, lowpass filter and modulation effects thrown into the feedback signal path. The input signal first goes through a delay line on each stereo channel, but instead of sending the output directly back into the delay line, the resulting signal is sent to a stutter processor, then to a lowpass filter and finally to another delay line on the opposite channel which is modulated for creating chorus type effects.

The output of the second delay line is then routed back to the first one on the original channel. The stutter effect can be used to generate reverse delays, noisy pitch-shifting or raw granulation. The lowpass filter has an internal LFO to make the cutoff frequency oscillate, and the modulation processor can act as a subtle chorus or noisy modulator depending on the range of the modulation rate.

Pitchshifting Dual Delay

Set different harmonies for the left and right channels. For example, -12 will be an octave below, and 7 will be a fifth (7 semitones) above. The Balance control can be used to emphasise one side over the other.
Use Delay and Feedback, along with LFO and Frequency, to set the length and character of the delays.
For more complex arpeggiations, try using two instances of Angel Dust at the same time.

Tymee is a free delay plugin. Designed with simplicity in mind, it offers straightforward controls and quality sound.

It features a 10 seconds delay line with tap tempo functionality, a down-sampler, a low-pass resonant filter and a built-in spectrogram for real-time visualization.

You might wonder why a delay plugin would include a spectrogram. The truth is, Tymee was originally developed for teaching audio programming at a university, and incorporating a spectrogram into the workshop was valuable for educational purposes (and also because it looks great!).

Digital models of the Roland RE201. VST3, AU plugins and source code.
The original folder contains a (mostly) header only library implementing four seperate digital models of a Roland RE-201, developed throughout the duration of my final year project, on the BSc Sound Engineering and Production course at Birmingham City University. The models are classes which can be implemented into an audio plugin in any framework.

The latest version is a significant improvement of the original and is not header only. This is dedicated to optimisations which did not fit into the time scale of my bachelors project and generally cleans up the code. This includes processing by buffer instead of sample, optimising the filter structures, adjustments to the WDF tone stack, reducing unnecessary calculations and dynamic allocation of objects and memory based on channel count. The error function tape saturation model has been omitted (because lets be honest, tape hysteresis modelling is way cooler), however the tone stack algorithm can be switched between VA and WDF by setting a bool variable in the RE201model class.

The four models implemented combinations of two tape saturation and two tone stack modellings methods. One tape saturation modelling method was a static non linearity (error function) and the other was based on the hysteresis processor developed by chowdhury (2019) which calculates magnetisation based on a tape playhead position derivative approximation. The tape delay modelling between the two methods is the same, utilising three circular buffers with read times at multiple of each other, in line with the real device (Using a single buffer with multiple read heads was tested, however this appeared to generate phasing issues when multiple playheads were active). Both methods implement oversampling, albeit very inefficiently. The latest version attempts to resolve many of those issues.

The first tone stack method implemented the VA Bassman 59′ filter discretised by Yeh (2006). The other tone stack was two WDF shelving filters processed in series to make up the bass and treble frequency bands.

Other perceptual characteristics have been modelled, this includes wow and flutter (although this is next on my improvements list), control ballistics (pitch increases when the repeat rate is increasing and vice versa) and tape speed dependant equalisation.

Included in both versions is the respective Windows VST x64 plugin and ASPIK project which can be built for Mac OS. Mac OS versions will be added shortly.
